School Messenger August 9 - Detailed Version
Good afternoon Brew Tech Family,
This is April lee. I wanted to reach out to you today concerning the opening of school. Please know that this entire school messenger and even a more detailed version of this phone message may be found on webpage today.
Tomorrow is the first day of virtual school for our students. There may be a couple of bumps in the road, but rest assured that we will get rid of those bumps if and if they arise. We are going to miss seeing our students in person in the morning, but know that we will make certain that we are committed to teach virtually is an organized strategic and interesting way. It is most important that students go there classes following their schedule
Preparing each day to learn - Parents, it is important that your student treats virtual school with the same level of importance as attending school in person.

Students need a designated space at a table or desk for attending their virtual classes if at all possible.

Students need be logged into Schoology before 8:00 am to begin their school day. A Schoology directional handout was in the packet that was picked out last week. To log in to Schoology, the student will use their student number and the last 4 digits of their SS# two times as their password. If the student does not remember their Student #, it can be found on top of their schedule. It is the S with numbers behind it.
Students, it is key to email your teachers if you are having a problem or have questions. You can find their email on the Brewtech webpage- click on our school, and then select school staff find their email(s)

Attendance - Attendance is required and will be taken by Schoology each day and during every class by the teacher. If your student must miss instructional time due to a doctor or dentist appointment, a written excuse must be provided to Mrs. Cynthia Thompson in the BrewTech Office – by email or by being mailed or dropped off at the school.

Textbooks – While many of our course textbooks will be available to your student online, some teachers prefer us to distribute textbooks to their students. We will make books available by way of carpool drive thru in a couple of weeks. I will alert you to those days and times when they are scheduled.

Picking up meals – Student lunchroom numbers were mailed to 9th and 10th graders and provided in the orientation packets for 11th and 12th graders. If you did not receive it, contact Assistant Principal Jason Norred.

PLEASE make plans to pick up your student’s meals either at BrewTech, or at your zoned high school, or at any school closest to you between 7AM and 1 PM every MONDAY and WEDNESDAY.

Have your lunch number ready to give to the staff member as you drive through the receiving line.

Meals will be prepared for EVERY student in MPS. Picking up your meals helps MPS ensure continued funding for the Child Nutrition Program that provides free meals when we return to face-to-face instruction.

iNOW and Schoology – Your student’s face-to-face schedule is available anytime in iNow. Please log in with the temporary passcodes that were provided in the orientation packets.

INOW and Schoology sync together and, by tomorrow morning, your student’s classes should appear on his or her Schoology dashboard.
IF THEY DO NOT SEE THEIR COURSES, please have your student check their email for communications from their teachers.

Parents, teachers will provide the course codes to their students for you to use to access their classes through the Schoology platform as their parent. Please give the teachers a little time to get this information to you.

Ideally there will not be any issues. I will be monitoring Schoology myself tomorrow morning and will address with our IT analysts any issues that arise. I cannot say it enough – students need to check their emails frequently every day!

Face-to-Face and Virtual Course Schedules – You received in your student’s orientation packets a traditional face-to-face school schedule and TWO VIRTUAL SCHEDULES. Copies of the virtual schedules are posted on the BrewTech Homepage and in the BrewTech PTSA Facebook group.

One of the virtual schedules is labeled at the top as being for WEEK ONE OF VIRTUAL SCHOOL and the SECOND SCHEDULE is for labeled as for applying to WEEKS TWO THRU NINE of virtual school.

For both, school begins EVERY DAY at 8:00 AM – starting tomorrow morning.

For this first week of virtual school, students will attend all 7 of their classes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Then they will begin alternating their ODD and EVEN class periods on Thursday and Friday.

Please review these schedules carefully with your student.

SCHEDULE CHANGES – Changing a student’s schedule is limited to correcting which math, English, history, science or academy class your student is taking. Schedules will not be changed for teacher preferences, classmate choices or based on the periods the class is offered. It may take up to a week for corrections to be made. Please have your student log into the classes that currently appear on their schedule until the new course assignments have been made. If you have questions, contact Mrs. Kay Toole in the Guidance Office at BrewTech.

Chromebooks and Devices – BrewTech received only 60 Chromebooks on Thursday and those were distributed to families who had no other devices their BrewTech student could use in their home to start school this week.

As we receive additional Chromebooks from MPS, those will also be distributed on a NEEDS BASED protocol trying to get them into the hands of students who have no other devices first.

MPS has committed to providing devices to EVERY enrolled student. Devices were ordered during the summer and are coming in as fast as they can be produced. BrewTech has almost 550 students of the 28,000 students attending Montgomery Public Schools. As we get more Chromebooks, we will issue them immediately. Contact me directly regarding any issues with internet connectivity.

On behalf of the Brew Tech faculty, staff, and PTSA, we welcome you and your students to school. It will start off differently for the first 9 weeks, but know that we are going to do everything we can to make this a smooth transition for our students. Again, we are totally committed to preparing our students for college and career. Remember you can find this message on our website and on the PTSA Facebook page. We are BrewTech Strong! Go RAMs! ...
